The Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code provisions which requires young live-in couples to register themselves is an insane mindless attack at the most personal matters of our lives. Before this, the Uttar Pradesh government brought so called “anti-conversion” law which was an attack against young inter-faith couples.
Such patriarchal laws only exist in fully Islamic country where women’s personal liberties have no values. Where sex is a taboo. Why is India regressive so much and becoming like an Islamic country? No progressive democracy have such crazy laws.
The government wants to make a dossier, a register of lovers. It wants to investigate and regulate love, romance, sex, marriage and such deeply personal matters. Why? To protect women? Because all women are “stupid”, “gullible” and vulnerable? They do not have any ability to think and any man can make a fool of them so government have to big brother to protect her?
Ok fine. Let’s assume it is true. Let’s assume in this country vast majority of women are illiterate, stupid and vulnerable.
But do you know the biggest crime which happen taking advantage of girls and women’s and their parents’ gullibility? Crimes by fake Godmen in the fake ashrams.
Millions of fake Godmen commit crimes likes rape and molestations against women and young girls. It is happening for decades. Only few have been caught and jailed. Illiterate poor women, blinded with superstition and devotion go to these babas and get raped in the name of “baba ka prasad/ashirwad”.
How many laws did government make to prevent crimes by fake babas in fake ashrams?
- We can have laws like:
- All self-proclaimed Godman have to register themselves with the local magistrate within one month of becoming Baba.
- All such self-proclaimed Babas will have to register their ashram and get a license to run Ashram before opening.
- All ashrams to get a license, install 360 degree cctv to capture everything so that no crime goes unnoticed.
- CCTV recording to be submitted on weekly basis to the government.
- The moment a female devotee enter the ashram, make a registration and inform the DM.
These are just some examples. If govt wants, make laws can be made to regulate and monitor the crimes committed by fake Godmen in the country. But govt’s objective is not to prevent crimes. Their only objective is to control woman’s bodies and sexuality because they are steeped in regressive medieval mindset. This government views women as sexual and reproductive labourers, rather slaves, serving the patriarchal family without any independent life or choices.
