In Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district, a 5-year-old girl child was brutally raped by a 17-year-old boy who also inflicted unimaginable violence on the child after which she was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood and was rushed to a hospital. She is now fighting for her life after undergoing live saving treatment including 28 stiches in her private parts.
Doctors said the little girl had suffered grievous injuries in her anal area. She had a very dangerous tear between her legs, deep wounds on her jaw and head. She required 28 stitches to close the wounds. The accused has dealt with her with unimaginable cruelty (The Hindu). The accused also tried to kill the girl by banging her head against the ground repeatedly, causing major injuries to her head (India Today).
Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Mule has updated the media that the accused boy has been arrested under provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police also said that the accused was drunk at the time of the crime. This information is perhaps not relevant but does raise the question how can minor boy access alcohol? Who is responsible for this illegality?
The family of the victim child has demanded that the accused is tried as an adult.
Media reports did not carry name of the accused as it is against the law to publish names of crime accused under the age of 18.
Editorial views:
Few days back a joke outraged the whole nation in the name of Indian culture and women’s modesty etc. but a child rape does not cause nation-wide outrage.
Meanwhile, some soul-dead accounts on social media are trying to find a Hindu-Muslim angle by repeatedly suggesting that the accused is a Muslim that is why the name is hidden. As if in this country, Hindu men and Hindu boys have not committed rape.
